How to Track Your Spending Without Linking Your Bank Account

You don’t need to connect your bank to an app to know where your money goes. You can bring your transactions in yourself: a screenshot or PDF of your bank statement, a photo of a receipt, or a quick line of text. A good app turns those into sorted transactions, so you get the full picture without handing over your bank login.

Linking a bank usually means giving an app access to your account. Some people are fine with that. Many are not: they don’t want a third party holding a connection to their money, or their bank simply isn’t supported. If that’s you, you can still budget properly.

Three ways to bring your spending in

1. Your bank statement, as a screenshot or PDF

Take a screenshot of the transactions in your banking app, or download your bank’s PDF statement, and share it with the app. Each send takes one screenshot or up to five pages of a PDF, so a long month takes a few sends, and you don’t type any of the transactions.

2. Receipts, the moment you get them

Snap a photo of a receipt and the app reads the merchant, amount, date, line items, VAT and discounts. With Rosemoni, a receipt printed in another language comes back with its items in your app’s language, and a foreign amount is converted into your currency while the original amount stays on the transaction.

3. A quick line of text

For cash or anything without a receipt, just type it: “coffee 5 euro”. That’s enough to record it.

Keep your balances right

Without a bank connection, your accounts are your own bookkeeping. Add each bank account by hand, as Everyday, Savings or Investment, with the balance your bank shows on a date you pick. Every transaction after that date moves the balance. When you import a statement, set one account for all of it, or a different one per transaction.

What stays private

With Rosemoni there are no bank connections, no credentials to hand over and no access to grant. You decide what the app sees by choosing what you share.

  • Photos and screenshots you share are not stored on our servers after processing (privacy policy).
  • From a PDF, only the pages you pick are sent, as images made on your phone. The PDF file itself is not uploaded.
  • An optional Face ID lock keeps your finances hidden from anyone who picks up your phone.

A simple routine that works

  • Day to day: snap receipts or type a line when you spend.
  • Once a week or once a month: import your bank statement to catch everything else. Rosemoni checks each line against what you already logged: a clear match with a receipt becomes one transaction, and a possible match is left unticked for you to check.

How Rosemoni does it

Rosemoni is an AI money assistant that does the tedious part for you. Rosa, the assistant, reads your statements and receipts and files every transaction under Income, Spending, Savings or Investment. A payee you’ve filed before is filed the same way again, and she follows what you’ve asked her to remember. You can also ask her about your own money, like “How much did I spend at the supermarket this month?” or “Can I afford this?”, and she answers from your own transactions.

Questions

Can I use a budgeting app without connecting my bank?

Yes. You can import your bank statement as a screenshot or PDF, photograph receipts, or type transactions in. Rosemoni works this way by design: there is no bank connection at all.

Do I have to type every transaction?

No. Each send of your statement brings in one screenshot or up to five PDF pages of transactions, and receipts are read for you.

Is my bank statement stored?

With Rosemoni, screenshots are not stored on our servers after processing, and from a PDF only the pages you pick are sent. The file itself is not uploaded.
